French kitchen furniture has become very sought after with the increase in popularity of French home decor. One of the reasons for the rise in popularity is the fact you are not stuck to one shape, design or color.
You can choose to go the traditional route or have a more modern influence. Your choice will probably be influenced by the type of property you live in and the way you have decorated the rest of your home.
French Kitchen furniture
French kitchen furniture will be influenced by the region of France it is supposed to have originated in. For example, if you go for a Mediterranean theme you want to think of blues and yellow representing the sea and sunshine. If you prefer white walls and dark woods, you are probably thinking of a home in the French mountains. If this is the case and you want to stay on theme, you would introduce some blue, reds and white into your kitchen by means of tableware or paintings. You wouldn’t paper the kitchen walls as the French never do that. They also don’t go in for painting wooden furniture preferring to use natural stains to color it instead.
French Kitchen cabinets
If you choose to install French kitchen cabinets use those to display any pottery or vases you own from this region. You can buy white and blue crockery that is very French in appearance. Always decorate your room with a bunch of fresh flowers sitting on a pretty tablecloth. In general French women are very house proud and have good housekeeping skills. They see the kitchen as the heart of any home but it is not there just to look beautiful. Food is very important to the people of France and they are especially fond of long lingering family meals where everyone, including the children, gets a chance to discuss their day. The table is always decorated nicely with a cloth for everyday use and not just when you have people over.
Meals involve a lot of home cooking. Processed meals haven’t really caught on in France with housewives preferring to prepare food from scratch. So you should have a plentiful supply of natural ingredients. Having a French kitchen island is a great idea as it gives you additional space to prepare these meals. It would usually have a marble top not only as this is hardwearing but also because it is very stylish. The island provides more storage for fresh herbs and other natural ingredients. You can grow your own herbs really easily in a window box so this could become your window decoration to make the whole look more authentic. Add a couple of strings of garlic and onions to complete the look.
Use French kitchen furniture to make your room more inviting and perhaps your family will grow closer spending times over meals rather than watching TV. Your cooking skills will improve when you practice using raw ingredients and soon you will wonder why you ever thought ready meals were tasty.
